Mobile internet services are set to remain suspended within a four-kilometre radius of the Janpath–Kartavya Path crossing in New Delhi from 10 PM on October 9 until 10 PM on October 10, following approval from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The temporary restriction comes ahead of a planned protest in the national capital on October 10. Authorities have introduced security and transport measures in anticipation of the gathering, which is linked to opposition demands concerning the Election Commission of India and its Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
The designated area covers parts of central Delhi around the Janpath–Kartavya Path intersection. According to reports, the order covers mobile internet services across different generations of mobile technology. Residents, commuters and visitors within the affected zone may experience interruptions to mobile data during the specified period.
The planned demonstration is expected to draw protesters and opposition supporters raising concerns about electoral-roll revision and demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The dispute has triggered political demonstrations and criticism from opposition parties.
Authorities have also announced other security and transport arrangements ahead of the protest, including restrictions affecting access to several Delhi Metro stations and changes to some train services. These measures are intended to manage crowds and prevent disruption around key locations in the capital.
The internet suspension is expected to affect people relying on mobile data for communication, navigation, online payments and access to digital services within the designated area. The stated suspension window runs for 24 hours, from Friday night to Saturday night.
The development has placed the balance between public-order measures and access to communication services in focus as Delhi prepares for the demonstration. Further updates may follow as authorities implement the restrictions and manage security arrangements.
